The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, called for an immediate "humanitarian ceasefire" in the Gaza Strip.
Borrell stated in a post on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter) on Monday that "according to the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program, Cindy McCain, the scenario that was greatly feared has become a reality," according to Anadolu Agency.
Borrell added that "there is complete famine in northern Gaza, and it is heading south."
He emphasized the "urgent need to implement Security Council Resolution No. 2728, and the ceasefire for the exchange of prisoners and the delivery of humanitarian aid to those who are on the verge of death due to hunger."
He pointed out that Israel is obligated to provide "full, safe, and rapid access without any obstacles for humanitarian aid on a large scale."
Borrell also condemned the launch of rockets by Hamas and Islamic Jihad at the area of Kerem Shalom.
On Sunday evening, the Israeli occupation army announced the death of 3 of its officers due to an attack by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, which targeted a gathering of occupation forces in the Kerem Shalom area on the border with the Gaza Strip.
