U.S. President Joe Biden is preparing to announce later, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in the State of the Union address, that the U.S. military will establish a port on the coast of the Gaza Strip to receive aid, according to Reuters citing senior officials in the U.S. administration.
U.S. officials told Reuters that establishing a port on the coast of the Gaza Strip will take weeks, and added that the initial shipments of aid will arrive at the port from Cyprus.
Senior officials in the U.S. administration also said that the operation will not require U.S. ground forces, and the forces will remain on ships off the coast. They pointed out that a temporary ceasefire is necessary to allow the acceleration of aid shipments entering.
