Nearly twenty stolen vehicles worth approximately 2 million dollars have been recovered, and six individuals have been charged in relation to a car theft ring in the Greater Toronto Area.

Brampton Police announced Thursday the results of their year-long investigation dubbed "Project Vinnie," which looked into the flow of car thefts throughout the region.

Deputy Chief Mark Andrews stated that the investigation began in August of last year when an organized crime group stole a Range Rover in Brampton.

Andrews said in a video accompanying the press release regarding the case, "Investigators were able to link other similar types of car thefts in the Peel and York regions believed to have been carried out by the same group."

He noted that the investigation was named "Project Vinnie" because some of the stolen vehicles were fraudulently re-manufactured and re-registered with Ontario services before being sold illegally.

As a result of the investigation, police found 13 Land Rovers, five Dodge Rams, two Porsches, a Honda CRV, and a Cadillac SRX, with a total estimated value of 1,950,000 dollars.

Police said six individuals have been arrested in connection with "Project Vinnie."

They have been identified as 27-year-old Robert Ramnarine, 32-year-old Jagan Karunanithi, 23-year-old Riad Mohammed, 29-year-old Van George Sinnagla, 25-year-old Habishan Sivasegaram, and 36-year-old O’Neil Ricketts.

Some face multiple charges of possessing forged documents, while others have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime. In total, investigators laid 42 charges in the case.

Meanwhile, police continue to search for two wanted suspects in the investigation, 39-year-old Calvin Peacock and an unidentified male.

Peacock, who operates in the Peel area and surrounding regions, is wanted on two charges related to possession of property obtained by crime, vehicle theft, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

He is known to steal vehicles while pretending to be a potential buyer during a test drive with the unsuspecting victim. Andrews stated that Peacock is also wanted by other police agencies in Ontario.

Last month, Peel Police released a video of a violent car theft in Caledon, allegedly showing Peacock assaulting two individuals during a test drive before fleeing with the vehicle.

Authorities have yet to identify the second wanted suspect. He is described as a non-white male, standing five feet eight inches tall, with medium skin tone, slim build, short black hair, and a full beard. He was last seen wearing glasses.

Anyone who can identify him is asked to contact investigators at 905-453-2121, extension 2133, or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or peelcrimestoppers.ca.

Andrews stated, "We want to assure the public that we know this is a significant concern, and we are investing heavily to eliminate these criminals and protect our communities. Peel Police will continue to disrupt and dismantle organized auto theft rings and arrest those responsible."
