The Diaria newspaper reported that the Interior Minister of Uruguay, Luis Alberto Heber, resigned from his position along with a group of other officials amid a drug traffickers' passport scandal.

Earlier, Uruguay's Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo resigned after audio recordings were published in which he asked his deputy Carolina Ache to not assist the investigation in urgently determining the circumstances of handing over travel documents to drug trafficker Sebastian Marcetti, who is wanted in connection with the murder of the prosecutor in Paraguay.

It is noted that this fugitive criminal obtained a new passport in 2021 through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within 24 hours while he was in custody in the United Arab Emirates.

The newspaper article also stated: "President Luis Lacalle Pou said at a conference on Saturday that he accepted the resignation of Interior Minister Luis Alberto Heber, Deputy Minister Guillermo Maciel, and the presidential adviser for communications and strategy Roberto Lavallol, four days after the crisis erupted concerning the issuance of the passport to drug smuggler Sebastian Marcetti."
