American forces once again attacked several targets of the Houthi militant militia in Yemen.
A statement from the U.S. Central Command on the social media platform "X", formerly Twitter, said the attacks included "seven self-defense strikes against four Houthi drones and seven anti-ship cruise missiles that were prepared to launch against ships in the Red Sea."
The boats and cruise missiles were detected in areas controlled by the Houthis and were assessed to pose a direct threat to U.S. Navy and commercial ships.
The U.S. Central Command added that these measures "will protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for the U.S. Navy and commercial vessels."
The Houthi militia has long attacked ships in the Red Sea, which they say they believe are linked to shipments to Israel. They say they want to put an end to the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which followed the attack launched by the Palestinian Hamas movement in Israel on October 7.
Due to the risks, major shipping companies are increasingly avoiding the shortest maritime route between Asia and Europe.
Because of this, the United States and the United Kingdom frequently attack Houthi targets in Yemen.
