The armed man who tried to storm the "FBI" office building in Ohio was killed in a shootout with the police after a car chase and a long confrontation in a cornfield.
The American police have not yet identified the deceased, and did not comment during two press conferences on his motives; but the "New York Times" newspaper and the "NBC" news channel quoted sources with information about the deceased man.
The American media outlets quoted unspecified sources that the man is Ricky Shiffer (42 years old), while an "NBC" correspondent, citing two law enforcement officials on Twitter, said that the suspect was at the U.S. Congress building in Washington during an attack by supporters of former President Donald Trump on January 6, 2021.
The Ohio incident began early yesterday, Thursday, when the suspect failed to enter the visitor screening facility of the Federal Bureau of Investigation "FBI".
The office said he later fled the area in a white car heading north on Interstate 71.
Nathan Dennis, spokesman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said in a press statement that a chase ensued and the suspect fired his weapon at one of the state police officers.
He added that the car eventually stopped, and a shootout occurred between the suspect and police officers, none of whom were injured.
The FBI has been subjected to online threats since its agents searched Trump's home in Florida last Monday; as part of an investigation into documents removed from the White House when he left office in January 2021.
The "New York Times," quoting two unnamed law enforcement officials familiar with the matter, said investigators are looking into whether the suspect has links to extremist groups.
