Yesterday, Tuesday, January 30, 2024, the Syrian regime received the credentials of the first ambassador of the United Arab Emirates since 2011, indicating a new improvement in relations.

The Syrian regime's "Sana" agency stated that Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad received, during a meeting at the ministry's headquarters, a copy of the credentials of Ambassador Hassan Ahmed Al Shehhi as "Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates."

It added that "during the meeting, the depth and strength of the relations between the two brotherly countries were affirmed, as well as the necessity to continue enhancing them in all fields."

It is also noted that Syrian regime President Bashar al-Assad visited the UAE in 2022, in his first trip to an Arab country since the outbreak of the revolution in Syria, and then visited again in 2023, after a devastating earthquake struck northern Syria.

After months of the earthquake disaster, the Arab League canceled the decision to suspend Syria's membership, after it had lasted for more than a decade.

The Syrian regime has gradually resumed diplomatic relations with the Arab region in recent years, after many Arab countries recalled their ambassadors and closed embassy premises, in response to the campaign launched by Bashar al-Assad against protests that erupted against him in 2011.
