A man from Ottawa says he has been waiting for nearly a year to have his car repaired after it was damaged during a storm last August.
A shortage of spare parts is causing the delay, but Joshua Kim says his patience has run out, and he has had to rely on public transportation for the past eight months.
Kim said, "I went from a 20-minute drive to work to over an hour and ten minutes each way."
His car has been stuck at Camco Acura, after flooding caused problems with the airbags in his 2016 Acura TLX.
Kim said, "The insurance adjuster basically said that the water damage caused a short circuit in the sensors that triggered the airbags."
His insurance company covered the cost of renting a car during the first two months, but that ended in November. There is still no information on when his car will be repaired.
He stated that it has generally been difficult to get wiring harnesses.
"Mr. Kim recently contacted Acura Canada's customer relations on July 16, 2024, to inquire about parts and request a rental car. We responded to the customer yesterday to let him know that his request has been approved while we try to locate the parts," Acura Canada said.
Kim said, "What they told me is that I am not entitled to a rental car."
In an email, Acura informed Kim that the parts have been delivered to Honda Canada in a severely delayed state, but there is no estimated time of arrival.
Kim says he wants Acura to provide him with a rental car while he waits for his car to be repaired, whenever possible.
He said, "They have had plenty of time to fix the problem, and it seems that everything falls on me when I was the victim of the flooding and the parts delay."
