Montreal police said yesterday, Tuesday, that three police officers were hospitalized with injuries after being assaulted by a 23-year-old man in a downtown street.
Around 2:40 PM, police received a call about a man experiencing homelessness who allegedly acted inappropriately near the intersection of Sainte-Catherine and McGill College Avenue, and two patrol officers on bicycles were dispatched to the scene to intervene. During the intervention, the man punched an officer in the head, according to Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.
The use of pepper spray was unsuccessful in subduing the suspect.
Another officer also intervened and was scratched on his face, while another officer was bitten on the arm.
The officers were taken to the hospital to receive treatment for their injuries, which were considered not life-threatening.
