The Speaker of the House of Commons, Greg Fergus, expelled the opposition leader yesterday, Tuesday, after he described Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as "an idiot," in the latest clash between the two politicians who are preparing for next year's elections.
The incident began when party leader Pierre Poilievre criticized what he called Trudeau's refusal to take strict action against drug overdoses, asking, "When will we put an end to this foolish policy pursued by this idiot Prime Minister?"
It was noted that in January 2023, the province of British Columbia announced that it would stop prosecuting individuals for possessing small amounts of heroin, methamphetamine, or cocaine, as part of efforts to combat the overdose crisis, and the program was supposed to last three years. However, last October, amid complaints about rising crime rates and the dangers posed by unsafe drug supplies, the province reversed course and revealed plans to ban the public use of illegal drugs.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government announced in May 2023 that it would allow the province to decriminalize drugs in the first-ever exemption of its kind.
