The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced that several refrigerated plant-based beverages from the Silk and Great Value brands have been recalled due to concerns of listeria contamination.
The agency's recall applies to Silk almond milk, coconut milk, almond-coconut milk, oat milk, as well as almond milk from the Great brand.
The agency stated that the recall was prompted by an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak, with illnesses reported in connection to the consumption of the products.
It advised anyone who believes they have contracted the illness from consuming one of the recalled products, most of which have an expiration date before October 4, to seek medical advice from their healthcare provider, and to dispose of the recalled products or return them to the place of purchase.
CFIA says that food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, and symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and stiffness in the neck.
