The long-term forecasts for Hurricane Ernesto indicate its movement southeast of Nova Scotia by Monday.
However, the Canadian Hurricane Centre states that it is still unclear how the storm will affect the Atlantic region.
Today's forecasts issued by the agency in Halifax indicate that the storm is expected to strike Bermuda on Saturday as a Category 3 hurricane, generating strong winds and large waves from the ocean.
The federal agency stated that these high waves are expected to start reaching along the Atlantic coast on Saturday and increase over the weekend.
Ernesto's center is expected to be south of Nova Scotia as it moves northeast, but it is too early to know whether the strong winds and heavy rains caused by the storm will hit the province.
Environment Canada states that there is a "slightly greater chance" of Ernesto impacting the weather over Newfoundland, and the agency suggests that offshore oil facilities "should definitely pay attention to this storm."
