The American "Wall Street Journal" reported yesterday that the United States is pressing Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement to hold a new round of talks regarding negotiations on a prisoner swap deal and a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to the report, the United States is expected to send a team of senior officials to the Middle East this week, aiming to overcome the remaining obstacles and reach an agreement.

Egypt, Qatar, and the United States had announced their intention to present proposals to bridge the remaining gaps if necessary.

In a message delivered to Arab mediators last night, Hamas political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar stated that "if Israel is serious about negotiations and wants Hamas to participate, it must stop military operations in Gaza."

Moreover, three Iranian sources told Reuters that only a ceasefire agreement in Gaza would prevent an immediate Iranian response to Israel following the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

A senior security official from Tehran stated that Iran, along with its allies like Hezbollah, would launch a direct attack if talks about Gaza failed or if they believe Israel is stalling in negotiations.

He also mentioned that in light of the increasing risk of a wider war in the Middle East following the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran and prominent Hezbollah military leader Fouad Shukur in a bombing in southern Beirut, Iran has engaged in discussions with Western countries and the United States in recent days regarding ways to respond.
