The World Food Programme warned of the catastrophic situation in Sudan, where about 18 million people are facing severe hunger.

The UN-affiliated program said in a post on its X platform account today, Saturday, that the number of hungry people has more than doubled compared to last year, and 5 million people are experiencing emergency levels of acute hunger due to the conflict.

It added that the situation has become catastrophic, with about 18 million people facing severe hunger across the country.

The Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has been engaged since mid-April last year in a war against the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo "Hemeti," a war that has resulted in over 13,000 deaths and more than seven million displaced persons and refugees, according to the UN.
