Billionaire Elon Musk has so far distributed two million dollars to randomly selected American voters during campaign rallies in support of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, promising to distribute more.
The owner of the "X" platform, who has been heavily involved in the campaign to support Trump and criticize his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris, announced that he will continue to distribute one million dollars daily until November 5th.
These distributions target registered individuals in swing states who sign a petition calling for "freedom of speech and the right to bear arms."
However, this action has sparked legal controversy, as some experts have described it as potentially a form of electoral bribery, especially in the swing states witnessing intense competition between Trump and Harris.
In light of this, the U.S. Department of Justice has issued a warning to Musk.
According to informed sources, the department sent a warning letter to Musk, the CEO of Tesla, regarding these distributions.
Reports have also indicated that the "America PAC," affiliated with Musk, was informed that this action may constitute a violation of U.S. election law, according to CNN and NBC.
Musk had announced over the weekend that he will continue to provide one million dollars daily to registered voters in disputed states until the election on November 5th.
He clarified that the aim of this initiative is to draw attention to the petition; however, election law prohibits offering money to citizens in exchange for voting or registration.
