Victoria International Airport issued a decision to dismiss 36 workers, including 27 security screening workers; this came after federal investigations revealed that they were negligent in performing their duties at work, as well as failing in the proper security screening.
After repeated complaints against the negligent employees, the administration decided to conduct investigations that lasted several weeks during the security screening at the airport, according to what the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority indicated.
27 screening officers and nine employees in the screening department were dismissed as a result of the investigations conducted, as reported by the federal agency representing the screeners.
The union confirmed that the federal agency intervened inappropriately in this matter, especially regarding the withdrawal of funding and causing the dismissal of a number of employees.
The union also confirmed that Alliad company has no intentions to dismiss employees after investigating their negligence, which had begun on January 10.
