Today, Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was re-elected as the head of the Justice and Development Party after receiving all the votes of the delegates, totaling 1,399 votes, at the party's fourth extraordinary congress.
Erdoğan has been leading the Justice and Development Party since its establishment in August 2001. A year later, the party won the parliamentary elections held in November 2002, and has maintained power in Turkey ever since.
In a speech delivered after the voting results were announced, Erdoğan thanked his colleagues for the trust they placed in him and effectively launched the Justice and Development Party's election campaign for the local elections that will be held on March 31, 2024.
He also stated, "In the elections on March 31, we will repeat the success achieved on May 14 and 28 of this year (in the parliamentary and presidential elections) and begin a new era in governance at the municipal level."
