Five people died in home fires in Quebec over two days, and the latest deadly fire occurred in a home in the small town of Portneuf, near Quebec City, at around six o'clock on Sunday morning.
A person was also seen in the house located on Notre Dame St, but firefighters were unable to remove the body from the building. The fire continued to spread until morning, and Quebec security will take over the investigation into its causes. However, Sergeant Louis Philippe Roy said the cause does not immediately appear to be criminal.
In other parts of the province, a 91-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were found dead in a house that caught fire at 8:30 AM on Friday on Beth-Haley St. in Boisbriand.
In Rawdon, two people in their seventies died as a result of a fire breaking out in their home during the morning hours early last Friday.
