Two explosions occurred at the largest base of the "International Coalition" in Syria, located at the al-Omar oil field east of Deir ez-Zor, as a result of Iranian militias targeting an ammunition center with drones.
Warplanes and drones also flew over the area, according to a statement published by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Monday, October 23, 2023.
The U.S. Central Command stated in a release, "We destroyed two drones near U.S. and coalition forces in southwestern Syria before they reached their targets, and we are on high alert."
The Lebanese "Al-Mayadeen" channel also confirmed the bombardment of the largest coalition base in Syria, stating that a strong explosion echoed at the U.S.-led international coalition base inside the al-Omar oil field in Syria.
The channel noted in an urgent report that what calls itself the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" announced that its militants targeted the U.S. bases at al-Omar and al-Shaddadi in Syria with drones that directly hit their targets.
The "Sputnik" website reported that two large explosions shook the largest U.S. military base in eastern Syria, within the al-Omar oil field, coinciding with clashes and attacks carried out by local Arab tribes against pro-Washington militants around the base.
The website cited local sources in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, stating that two strong explosions were heard throughout the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, shaking the U.S. base at the al-Omar oil field. The sources further noted that the explosions were likely caused by two drones that struck the base, with no information about their origin or the results in terms of human and material damages.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden quickly concluded his address to reporters on Monday evening, saying, "I apologize.. I need to go to the White House Situation Room.. there’s an urgent matter I need to attend to," before leaving immediately.
