The train movement was paralyzed in parts of western Germany last night due to the theft of electrical cables, and some delays are expected to continue until midday today, Friday.
A spokesperson for the German railway company "Deutsche Bahn" stated that the situation in the Ruhr area and northern North Rhine-Westphalia returned to normal to some extent during the morning rush hour on Friday, but trains are still unable to operate at Bochum main station near Düsseldorf.
Long-distance train routes have been widely detoured. There were also cancellations and diversions in regional and suburban trains. The spokesperson mentioned that disruptions in Bochum are expected to last until midday Friday.
Due to the theft of a cable, the Bochum signal box is no longer operational. Additionally, wireless communications in northern North Rhine-Westphalia were disrupted due to cable theft overnight, according to the railway spokesperson.
Train drivers were unable to communicate with the signal boxes, preventing them from continuing their journeys for safety reasons. According to the railway, freight trains and about 20 passenger lines were affected by the theft.
