Federal officials clarified that the rain from the remnants of Hurricane Beatriz, which caused flash floods in the Maritimes region, also reduces the risk of wildfires in eastern Canada.

So far, this wildfire season is considered less severe than the record year in 2023, but the risk is particularly high for British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.

The number of active fires is increasing, with 284 fires currently in Canada, including 135 out of control.

Approximately 1.3 million hectares have burned, which is close to the ten-year average for this time of year.

Officials say that none of the provinces have requested federal assistance this season, and Canada has not had to ask other countries for help in fighting the fires so far.
