The Canadian men won the gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the athletics competitions within the Olympic Games in Paris yesterday, Friday.

The Canadian team, led by Andre De Grasse, completed the distance in a time of 37.50 seconds, ahead of South Africa (37.50 s) and Britain (37.61 s).

The United States, missing its star Noah Lyles due to a coronavirus infection, left empty-handed for the second consecutive edition after being disqualified following a disastrous first baton exchange between Christian Coleman and Kenny Bednarek.

The disappointment for the United States continued in this race, as it has not won a medal since the silver in 2004 in Athens.

The United States was disqualified for the same reason from the qualifiers of the 2021 edition in Tokyo, eliminated from the 2016 Rio edition, and failed to win a medal in London in 2012, as well as failing in the semifinals in Beijing in 2008.

De Grasse, the gold medalist in the 200m at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, earned his seventh Olympic medal and his second gold at the age of 29.

Canada surprised the United States on their home turf in Eugene at the World Championships in 2022 when they clinched the title against the hosts.

Italy, the defending champion, finished fourth led by Marcell Jacobs with a time of 37.68 seconds.
