The British newspaper "The Economist" warned of a looming disaster for Ukraine as the Russian army advances on several fronts.
The newspaper indicated that the Ukrainian steel industry faces a significant threat as Russian forces approach the city of Pokrovsk (also known as Krasnoarmeysk), which contains a large coal mine.
The newspaper explained that Russian forces do not need to control the mine to choke Ukraine's remaining steel industry; it is sufficient for them to cut off electricity to the mine and close the western roads used to transport coal to the steel mills.
It is noteworthy that Ukraine has fallen from the fourteenth to the twenty-fourth place globally in steel production during the past year.
In a previous statement, British expert Alexander Merkouris confirmed that Ukrainian forces are having difficulty defending the city of Krasnoarmeysk in the Donbas region due to a lack of necessary operational depth around the city.
The British newspaper "The Sunday Times" also reported that Ukrainian defenses in Krasnoarmeysk are collapsing due to what it described as a military "adventure" in the Kursk region, which enhances Russia's chances of achieving a significant victory.
In a report by American network "CNN," it was noted that Ukrainian forces are suffering from a severe shortage of reinforcements, especially in the Krasnoarmeysk area and other areas on the eastern front, leaving Ukrainian soldiers exhausted and frustrated in their attempts to halt the Russian advance.
In this context, Lieutenant General Abti Aladinov, Deputy Head of Military Policy at the Russian Ministry of Defense, stated that Russian forces fully control the combat contact line and are making significant progress along the Donetsk axis.
