The US dollar witnessed an increase of 1.2% against the Canadian dollar, reaching a level of 1.4720 Canadian dollars, the highest level since 2003. This rise was driven by comments from US President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of imposing tariffs of up to 25% on US imports from Canada and Mexico, leading to a sharp decline in the Canadian dollar.
In addition, the Canadian dollar dropped to its lowest levels in nearly five years against the US dollar, as it decreased by 0.5% to a level of 1.45 Canadian dollars, equivalent to 68.97 US cents.
Investors are awaiting the US president's decision on tariffs, which could have a significant impact on the value of the Canadian dollar in the coming period.
