The spokesperson for the US State Department, Matthew Miller, announced that the United States has evacuated part of its embassy staff in Niger, while assisting around 100 of its citizens to leave the country.
Miller said: "For the embassy, we completed an organized departure process on Friday, and we assisted about a hundred American citizens who left the country on a chartered flight on Sunday."
The State Department spokesperson clarified that the flight was organized by US authorities, adding that around 20 Americans left Niger on flights organized by France, Spain, and Italy.
A partial evacuation of the US embassy was also announced after Nigerian security forces placed the country's President, Mohamed Bazoum, under arrest.
