A military statement reported that the Sudanese Army Chief, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, arrived on Tuesday in the city of El Alamein on Egypt's northern coast to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
This is the first time Burhan has left Sudan since the conflict began with the Rapid Support Forces on April 15.
Egypt has offered to mediate between the warring parties in Sudan, as part of a series of international efforts to prevent a prolonged civil war and deepen the humanitarian crisis in the country.
In a speech delivered to soldiers on Monday, Burhan dashed hopes for talks, denouncing the Rapid Support Forces, whose members he described as "traitors," and vowed to achieve a decisive victory.
