Ontario is studying a ban on the use of non-disclosure agreements in cases of sexual harassment, misconduct, or violence in the workplace.
Minister of Labor David Piccini is scheduled to announce consultations on this issue today, as he discusses his ministry's next legislation.
Piccini also said that non-disclosure agreements should never be used to silence victims or to avoid accountability.
Ontario previously banned the use of non-disclosure agreements in cases of sexual misconduct among post-secondary employees seeking work at a different institution.
The government said that seven out of ten workers reported experiencing some form of harassment or violence in their workplaces, with rates higher for women and people of different genders.
As part of the law as well, the province has been tasked with making wage and salary disclosure mandatory in job postings. This is also expected to be announced on Monday.
