The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates announces that the Arab Republic of Egypt has decided to abolish the pre-visa requirements currently applied to Canadian citizens traveling to Egypt, allowing them to obtain a visa upon arrival at Egyptian entry points, in addition to reactivating the option to apply for and obtain an E-VISA electronically.

These procedures are set to take effect starting December 1, 2024, for all Canadian citizens arriving in Egyptian territory from that date.

This decision comes as part of what was agreed upon during the meeting between Dr. Badr Abdel Atti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, and Canadian Foreign Minister Ms. Mélanie Joly, recently held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In the context of this year's celebration of seventy years of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Canada, and the agreement of both sides on the importance of jointly contributing to facilitating mutual trade and tourism flow, as well as working towards achieving facilitation in movement and visas for citizens of both countries, the decision to abolish the pre-visa requirements applied to Canadian citizens stems from a mutual commitment to develop all aspects of cooperation and work towards further easing all available means for the citizens of both countries, including Canadian Egyptians and their connection to their homeland Egypt. This is in line with the directives of the President of the Republic to prioritize the interests of Egyptian citizens abroad and to eliminate any obstacles they may face.
