The Libyan Minister of Health in the parliament-appointed government, Othman Abdul Jalil, announced the death of 3,000 people due to Storm Daniel, predicting that the number would rise to 10,000.

Abdul Jalil stated in an interview with Libyan channel "Al-Masar" that the number of missing persons is in the thousands and is expected to reach about one hundred thousand people, confirming that "the situation in the city of Derna is becoming increasingly tragic, and there are no final statistics on the number of victims," noting that access to many neighborhoods has become impossible, calling on "friendly countries to help save what remains of Derna in the mountainous areas."

Dr. Osama Ali, the official spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Service in Libya, also confirmed that Storm Daniel swept away many residential neighborhoods in Libya and leveled them to the ground, turning what is happening on the ground into a dilemma in itself.

Ali added in a phone intervention, "We lost two ambulances, and we have no communication in Derna with the emergency team that entered the city due to the lack of coverage there and the loss of the communication network, confirming that rescue teams are working under extremely difficult conditions, as the roads are eroded, leading to direct injuries in vehicles, and silt has covered most areas affected by the floods."

He mentioned that most of the rescue operations are being conducted manually with the presence of citizens providing assistance, and that forces from the Libyan army are helping in the operations, and thus, the country is witnessing a tragic situation at this time.

For his part, Major General Imad Mustafa Al-Tarabulsii, the Minister of Interior in the parliament-appointed Libyan government, stated that the authorities are striving to provide safe places for those affected by the floods due to the damage caused by Storm Daniel.

Major General Imad Mustafa said that there are difficulties facing the relief and emergency teams during their search operations for the missing persons swept away by the storm's floods toward the sea, as the number of missing persons in eastern Libya has reached about 10,000 people due to the floods and torrents in the country, according to an official from the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Al-Tarabulsii added that the deceased persons in eastern Libya do not only hold Libyan nationalities, but there are also Egyptians and Palestinians among them in eastern Libya, specifically in the city of "Derna," and that crews are required to reach some affected areas due to the severity of the floods, indicating that the authorities are asking the international community for assistance to confront this natural disaster "Storm Daniel."
