According to the Canada Revenue Agency, families can expect to receive the next payment of the Canadian Child Benefit (CCB) in their pockets on Tuesday.
The Canadian Child Benefit is a tax-exempt payment made to eligible families to help with the cost of living when raising children under the age of 18. For most eligible families, it is paid monthly.
After this week's disbursement, payments are expected again on September 20, October 18, November 20, and December 13.
The Canada Revenue Agency confirmed that eligible families will not receive a monthly payment if their total amount for this year is less than $240. Instead, a one-time payment was to be received with the July installment.
To qualify for the Canadian Child Benefit each month, families must live with a child under the age of 18, be primarily responsible for the care of the child, and be residents of Canada. The Canada Revenue Agency outlines various citizenship status requirements on its website that individuals, their spouses, or common-law partners must meet.
The increase in the Canadian Child Benefit earlier this year means that eligible families may receive more.
Previously, families received up to $7,437 annually for each child under six years old, and up to $6,275 for each child aged six to 17.
Starting in July, families can expect to receive larger monthly payments totaling up to $7,787 annually for the benefit year from 2024 to 2025. Families with children aged six to 17 can receive a maximum annual total of $6,570 for each child.
The actual amount received by an individual or family depends on factors including shared custody, related provincial and territorial benefits, and whether the child or children have a disability.
Parents and caregivers can use the Canada Revenue Agency's child and family benefits calculator to estimate the amount they are entitled to.
