A 6-year-old child from Florida who has been missing since late August in New Brunswick, Canada is alongside his father, who is accused of kidnapping him.

George (Jojo) Morales was last seen on August 27 at his residence in Miami. According to a statement issued last month by the Miami-Dade Police Department, his paternal grandmother took the child that morning "according to a court order for shared time." She said the father, Gabriel Morales, 45, did not return the child, which violated the court order. The child's mother then called the police to report the disappearance of her child, and the child has been missing since then.

His father and grandmother, Lilliam Peña Morales, are wanted in connection with his disappearance and face charges of interfering with custody and hiding a minor contrary to a court order, according to the FBI, which is offering a $10,000 reward for the safe return of the child. They may be in the state of Maine or eastern Canada.

The Miami-Dade Police Department and FBI declined to comment further on the case. In a statement, New Brunswick RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Hans Ouellette confirmed that the force is assisting the Miami-Dade Police Department in the search. He said the New Brunswick police shared the missing child's poster on September 14.

He said: "The Royal Canadian Mounted Police continue to ask citizens to call 911 if they see any of the individuals mentioned in the poster." "The police in Canada continue to monitor the situation, and we will provide updates if there is more information that can be shared publicly."

According to the RCMP post, the situation "does not meet the criteria for an AMBER alert in our jurisdiction." Ouellette did not comment further on the case and did not respond to any questions when asked for comment. The Fredericton Police Force sent a statement almost identical to Ouellette's statement.

The US-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which is also investigating Jorge’s disappearance, saw a video earlier this week indicating the child was at a Walgreens store in Maine shortly after his disappearance. The center said in a statement that investigators now believe he is in eastern Canada. The statement said, "Investigators say Jojo's father, Gabriel Morales, 45, was likely planning to disappear with his son with the grandmother Lilliam Peña Morales, 68, for several months."

Some of the child's belongings were found in Maine near the international border at the end of August, according to the FBI. Jorge is about three feet tall and weighs about 50 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt, gray shorts, and black shoes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Miami FBI field office at (754) 703-2000 or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
