Two men were taken to the hospital on Sunday night after a shooting in the Mooregate Crescent and Hazelglen Drive area in Kitchener.
Regional Waterloo police said they received a report of a shooting in the neighborhood around 11:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, Amy Renard, who lives in the area, told local media: "I went to bed early and was asleep and just woke up to the sound of gunfire," and when the police arrived, they found two men shot.
The police say they were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The police also explained that "there is currently no threat to public safety and we are still trying to determine whether this incident was targeted."
On the other hand, Bradley Hickey said that throughout Monday, officers were seen entering and exiting an apartment complex registered in Mooregate Crescent.
The investigation was also expanded to include the AR Kaufman Public School area, and the back of the school yard was recorded on Monday morning.
The police say the incident did not occur on school property, but there is a road near the school that connects to the residential complex.
On another note, a spokesperson for the Waterloo District School Board said the school was operating as usual on Monday - but families in the area say the incident has made them anxious.
Renard said, "If you want your kids to go out and play and enjoy themselves, now it’s really scary to let them do anything — you don’t know what will happen."
Nicole Poirier, another resident of the area, also said, "It's not safe to let your kids out because you don’t know what’s going on."
She added, "My kids want to come to the park and play with their friends, but it feels too close to home, and I don’t want them to leave the backyard."
The police did not clarify whether they are looking for suspects or if any have been arrested.
The police said anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the police.
