Canada is a beautiful country, but Australia has qualities that make Canadians love moving there, as it boasts many traits that make you want to relocate, with better weather, unique food, and amazing wildlife; Australia is considered a better version of Canada.
Australia is very similar to Canada, with many of the same systems and values, but with the added bonus of stunning beaches and warm weather, and mostly, no snow.
If you are thinking about leaving Canada, you might want to
consider Australia.
Here are several reasons that make Canadians think about leaving the country and settling in Australia.
The weather
If you have never visited Australia before, imagine a climate similar to Canada's but better due to less snow, as snow does fall in Australia, especially in its mountainous regions, but it is a very different experience from what it is in Canada.
While in most parts of Canada, you can pretty much expect to experience multiple snowstorms during winter, snow is a rare occurrence in Australia.
Besides the lack of snow, the weather is similar to weather in Canada in many respects, where places like Melbourne can be relatively cold in winter and hot temperatures can reach 20 to 30 degrees Celsius in summer. However, there are also areas in Australia with completely different climates, arid and tropical.
One of the main benefits of Australia's climate is its warm weather aligns perfectly with some major holidays - Christmas and New Year's Eve.
While in Canada, these holidays often come with freezing temperatures and an abundance of snow, they are celebrated during the Australian summer, which runs from December to February.
The beaches
The beaches in Canada are beautiful, but they cannot compare to the beaches in Australia. In addition to famous beaches like Bondi Beach in Sydney, even the quietest local beaches enjoy pristine shores and stunning white sands, and even if you are in an urban city, you won't need to go far to find an amazing beach.
Sales taxes are different
Sales taxes in Australia are paid by consumers on top of the prices for most goods and services. However, unlike Canada, they work to set the price of the product, meaning that if you see a pair of shoes with a displayed price of $55, you pay $55, and you won't need to calculate the extra tax on top of the displayed price for most items you buy.
The wildlife
In Australia, you can see wildlife everywhere, and even in the suburbs of Melbourne, you can look out your window and see kangaroos grazing or a parrot sitting on a tree branch.
Australia also has an abundance of wildlife reserves where you can get up close to a lot of Australian wildlife, which is different from zoos where many animals roam freely, and you can even feed some of them.
And while there are wildlife reserves in Canada, they seem more popular in Australia.
The food
Australian food is very delicious, and there are a number of scrumptious dishes and cultural foods that have no equivalent in Canada.
There’s pavlova, which is a dessert of Australian and New Zealand origin usually topped with whipped cream and fruits, served during holidays and special occasions.
And if you love lamb, you'll be pleased to know it's a staple in the Australian diet.
Meat pies are another significant British snack in Australia, and although you can get meat pies in Canada, they are not of the same quality.
Better wages
The cost of living in Australia and Canada seems similar. Toronto and Melbourne share similar urban centers, with comparable grocery, transport, and even rental costs, although Melbourne has slightly lower costs.
However, the national minimum wage in Australia is much higher at $23.23 per hour, compared to $16.55 in Ontario and even the federal minimum wage in Canada, which is $17.30 per hour.
It feels like home
There are many aspects of Australian culture that remind you of Canada, and the countries have similar systems in terms of governance and education.
Australia feels like a warmer version of Canada, with better perks such as a higher minimum wage and more vacation days, four weeks compared to two weeks in Canada.
Even the money is similar, with banknotes in bright colors just like those in Canada.
All of this means that if you plan to move from Canada to Australia, it won't take long before you feel at home.
