Egyptians will start today, Sunday, December 10, 2023, to cast their votes for 3 days, in a presidential election whose results are scheduled to be announced on December 18. It is expected that the current president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will win to begin his third term in office until 2030.
There are 3 lesser-known candidates running for the presidency against el-Sisi, who submitted his candidacy papers last October after obtaining 424 endorsements from the 596-member parliament, as well as more than 1.1 million endorsements from the people.
The first candidate is the head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party (center), Farid Zahran; the second is the head of the Wafd Party (liberal), Abdel-Samad Yamama; and the third is the head of the Republican People's Party (liberal), Hazem Omar. They submitted their candidacy papers supported by the required number of parliamentary endorsements.
