Main stock index stabilizes and losses in financial and technology stocks

There was no significant change in the main stock index in Canada in late morning trading, as gains in the industrial, base metals, and telecommunications sectors were offset by losses in financial and technology stocks.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose by 0.33 points to 21,022.21.

In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 20.25 points to 38,170.55 points. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose by 14.13 points to 4,859.78 points, while the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 64.85 points to 15,228.86 points.

The Canadian dollar was traded at 74.58 US cents compared to 74.64 US cents on Wednesday.

The March crude oil contract rose 29 cents to $76.14 per barrel, while the March natural gas contract fell three cents to $2.07 per million British thermal units.

The April gold contract rose $4.00 to $2,071.40 per ounce, while the March copper contract fell four cents to $3.86 per pound.
