Sophie Grégoire Trudeau shares more about her life, struggles, and separation from Justin Trudeau while releasing a new book exploring themes of mental health and the universal need for human connection.

Grégoire Trudeau said in an interview on CP24 to promote the book: "Without human connection, we see that we can get sick."

In the book, Grégoire Trudeau shares mental health insights she has gathered from experts over the past twenty years, stating that they are particularly relevant now considering the various crises facing the world, "coming together: knowing ourselves, loving each other."

She said the world needs more "emotional leadership" in a world where people constantly feel on edge.

"And what is emotional leadership? Taking a breath when you don't want to, resolving conflict and staying calm when you really want to scream and shout, feeling your emotions rise and being able to regulate your nervous system."

Grégoire Trudeau also spoke about her separation from the Prime Minister, stating that the two still love each other, despite the change in their relationship.

She said, "You know, sometimes when you really love someone, you let them go somewhere along the way out of respect and admiration in different ways, even if it’s not convenient." "It’s not what I desire, but when things change, it’s not the end."

She added that it’s important for her children to see that their parents can still get along even though they are no longer together.

She continued, "When we live in a society where success is marriage and divorce is failure, and there’s nothing in between, we place a huge emotional burden on the children."

She stated that two people can separate and still love each other without it being a contradiction.

We don't claim that. We love each other. When I love with all my soul, I love then, I love now, and I will always love; nothing in the structure can make that love evaporate, nor should it.

The couple announced their separation last August, stating that they would share custody of their three children.

In the book, Grégoire Trudeau addresses various personal challenges, such as revealing years ago when she was a television and radio host in Quebec that she suffered from an eating disorder.

She shared, "I told myself: Oh my God, I won't get any more contracts after talking about this. They will think, oh, she’s the girl who has that eating disorder" or whatever, there was so much more "stigma back in those days."

Grégoire Trudeau, a mental health advocate, stated that although there is less stigma around such issues today, the only way to change things is through people opening up and sharing their stories.

While people think she lives in the spotlight, she said that doesn’t mean they know everything about her.

"What people see represents 1% of my life. I’m a mother, I’m an ally. I’m a friend. I have many other things that keep me busy."

Grégoire Trudeau, a mother of teenagers and a ten-year-old, said many people have not learned "to sit with our pain without feeling overwhelmed," and that parents need to prepare their children for the reality that "life is painful" and that happiness is not a constant state of being.

"When you dance between light and darkness, between happiness and sadness, you will notice that we weren't meant to come to this earth to be happy and rosy and everything is fine; we came here to be aware and responsible for our individual growth so we can contribute to the world and people can truly feel a sense of purpose."

Grégoire Trudeau stated that those hoping to discover "the gossip" in the book, which was written before her separation from the Prime Minister, will be disappointed.

"There’s truth there, there’s authenticity, there’s vulnerability; I think that’s much more positive than gossip."
