Sophie Gregoire spoke candidly about her separation from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
During her talk yesterday, Thursday, May 2, on a podcast with Katie Couric, the 49-year-old Sophie expressed how she has been feeling since she and Trudeau, who is 52, announced that they would be separating in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage.
The couple - who have children Xavier, 16, Ella-Grace, 15, and Hadrien, 10 - stated that they have separated amicably.
Sophie also mentioned that their separation hurts deeply, noting that society views marriage as success while separation and divorce are seen as failure, but "life happens in between."
Sophie - who spoke on the podcast to discuss her new book Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other - mentioned that she is maintaining open communication with her children and Trudeau.
She explained: "We are still connected by love, respect, smiles, and tears, and we are still trying to figure that out."
On August 2, Trudeau first announced on Instagram that he and Sophie had separated after 18 years of marriage.
