The government of Saskatchewan is studying taking legal action against the federal government for its use of the Emergencies Act.

The government said in a statement to local media that it shares with other provinces the position of not meeting the standards for enacting the law.

The province said in the statement that Saskatchewan is conducting a careful assessment of the impact of the unilateral protest under the Emergencies Act, despite the province's clear opposition to its application in Saskatchewan during consultations.

Adding, "At this time, the legal challenge is under consideration and has not been ruled out."

This comes following Alberta government's decision to file a challenge against the use of the Emergencies Act, announced on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said in a video posted on social media: "The federal government's resort to the Emergencies Act was an unnecessary and disproportionate move that could violate civil liberties, invade provincial jurisdiction, and create a very dangerous precedent for the future."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has become the first leader of the country to enact the Emergencies Act in an effort to end weeks-long trucker convoy protests that blocked streets in Ottawa and U.S. border crossings.
