Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned of a "real" risk of a third world war breaking out, while his country's invasion of Ukraine continues. The Russian minister said that Russia is working to avert the risk of nuclear conflicts, despite the high risks at present, and wants to minimize all opportunities to escalate such risks.

Lavrov confirmed that Moscow will continue peace talks with Kyiv, which he accused of "pretending" to negotiate. Russian news agencies quoted Lavrov as saying: "Goodwill has its limits. If it is not mutual, it does not help the negotiation process."

Lavrov warned of a "real" danger of a third world war breaking out amid unprecedented tensions between Moscow and the West, due to the Russian attack on Ukraine. Interfax news agency quoted Sergey Lavrov as saying that "the danger is serious and real and cannot be underestimated." Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, he said he was confident that "everything will, of course, end with the signing of an agreement ... its terms will depend on the combat situation on the ground," according to his expression.

Russia Accuses Ukraine of Bombing a Village

The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region bordering Ukraine accused Kyiv on Monday evening of bombing the village of Guravlyovka, confirming that the attack injured two civilians and caused damage to several homes.

Russia has repeatedly accused Ukrainian forces of striking Russian territory, targeting especially two villages in the Belgorod region and a village in the Bryansk region in mid-April.

Polish Tanks to Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Monday that his country had sent tanks to Ukraine. Poland has repeatedly called on the West to provide more weapons to Ukraine, especially heavy weapons, as Russian forces continue their offensive on the country.

In response to a question about whether Poland had sent or would send tanks to Ukraine, Morawiecki only said "yes." The Polish president refrained from mentioning any other details, including the number of tanks sent.

Poland had announced in March that it was ready to deploy all its MiG-29 fighter jets to the Ramstein airbase in Germany and place them at the disposal of the United States, but Washington rejected this sudden offer.

Targeting Weapon Supplies to Ukraine

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that its precision missiles destroyed six facilities supporting railway lines used to deliver weapon supplies from foreign countries to Ukrainian forces in Donbass.

Earlier on Monday, the Ukrainian army command said that Russia is trying to bomb railway infrastructure in Ukraine in order to disrupt weapon supplies from foreign countries.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Russian forces also destroyed a weapons depot near Sloviansk, in the Donetsk region, among several other military facilities bombed on Monday.

Attempts to Storm the Steel Plant in Mariupol

Ukrainian presidential aide Oleksiy Arestovych said that Russian forces continued their attack on Monday on the Azovstal steel plant where Ukrainian fighters are holed up in the city of Mariupol in southern Ukraine.

Arestovych added in a video statement, "The enemy continues to attack our defenses in the Azovstal steel plant area. They are firing artillery shells and trying to advance with assault groups and are violating orders of their supreme commander."
