The Ministry of Health in Quebec sent messages to school boards and service centers across the province this week after the number of confirmed measles cases reached 18 as of yesterday  Tuesday.

The (LBPSB) board sent letters to parents about the disease status, including vaccination information, symptoms, how it spreads, and how to book a vaccination appointment.

Darien Baker, LBPSB spokesperson, also said the school board is working with the local CIUSSS to set up vaccination clinics in various schools, prioritizing elementary schools," adding that the clinic lists will be available soon.

The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) also sent a letter to parents recommending vaccination for those who are not protected “as soon as possible.”

The letter stated: If a measles case appears in a school, anyone unprotected, whether children or adults, will be excluded from the place and must self-isolate at home, and they may return to school upon presenting valid proof of vaccination or after a 14-day period from the case identification, with the possibility of extending this for additional 14-day periods if more cases are detected.

The Montreal Educational Services Center (CSSDM) sent a similar message to parents saying that
Quebec is at risk of increasing cases for several months.

The letter stated: If you are a parent, check your child’s vaccination records to see if they are protected or not, measles vaccines may have different names, and anyone born after 1970 who has not been vaccinated against measles or has never had the disease should be vaccinated.”
