Airports, hospitals, and police services in Canada are still returning to normal operations following a day of a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows that caused a global technology disruption.

On Saturday, Microsoft estimated that the update rolled out by cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike affected 8.5 million Windows devices worldwide, and in Canada, much of this impact was reflected in air travel.

Travelers with Porter Airlines experienced numerous flight cancellations on Friday, and the vast majority of arrivals and departures between Canada and the United States at airports in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal were either halted or postponed.

However, on Saturday, Montreal's Trudeau Airport announced that normal operations had resumed, and the majority of flights and arrivals at the airports in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary were now landing and taking off despite delays.

Staff at hospitals and health facilities in British Columbia had to revert to paper to manage everything from lab work to meal orders during the technology outage, but on Saturday, all of them, including the Ontario University Health Network and Sunnybrook Hospital, announced that normal operations had been restored.

Meanwhile, in Edmonton, police stated that 911 services had been restored after a significant disruption in emergency communications.
