Canada has updated its travel advisory for Egypt following the decision to cancel the pre-departure visa requirements for Canadian citizens traveling to Egypt starting December 1, 2024.

The Canadian Embassy in Cairo published on its website today, Thursday, a statement from the Canadian government regarding the new entry requirements for Egypt starting from December 1, where holders of Canadian passports will be able to obtain an electronic visa before traveling or a visa on arrival in Egypt.

It stated that if traveling to Egypt before December 1, 2024, a visa will be required from a Egyptian embassy or consulate abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad recently announced that the Arab Republic of Egypt has decided to cancel the current pre-departure visa requirements for Canadian citizens traveling to Egypt, allowing them to obtain a visa upon arrival at Egyptian entry points, along with reactivating the option to apply for and obtain an electronic visa ("e-visa").

These procedures are set to be implemented starting from December 1, 2024, for all Canadian citizens arriving in Egyptian territory from that date.

This decision comes as part of the agreement reached during the meeting between Dr. Bader Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad, and Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly recently held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In the context of this year’s celebration marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Canada, and the agreement between both sides on the importance of jointly facilitating mutual trade and tourism flow, as well as working towards easing movement and visa requirements for citizens of both countries, the decision to cancel the pre-departure visa requirements for Canadian citizens stems from a mutual commitment to develop all aspects of cooperation and work towards more facilitation by all available means for the citizens of both countries, including Canadian-Egyptians and connecting them to their motherland, Egypt, in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic to give utmost priority to the interests of Egyptians abroad and to resolve any obstacles they may face.
