The Canadian government said it intends to put in place new immigration measures to support Sudanese holders of temporary residence who are currently in Canada and may not be able to return to Sudan. The Canadian government said in a statement that once the new measures announced by Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser come into effect, Sudanese citizens will be able to apply for extensions of their stays in Canada, allowing them to continue studying, working, or visiting their families in the country without any fees.
The government added that it will prioritize the review of completed permanent and temporary residence applications already in the immigration system for those still in Sudan to facilitate procedures for them, explaining that this includes visa applications for visits to immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents in the country.
Canada also announced that it will waive passport and permanent resident travel document fees for Canadian citizens and permanent residents currently in Sudan who wish to leave.
