The British newspaper "Times" reported that Britain has put more than 1,000 British soldiers on standby to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon.
The British government urged its citizens in Lebanon last Saturday to leave the country immediately, amid fears of a full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah and a wider regional conflict.
The Foreign Office stated in a statement that British nationals should leave Lebanon "now while commercial flight options are still available," according to Al Jazeera news network.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated in the statement that "tensions are high and the situation is likely to deteriorate rapidly, and while we are working around the clock to enhance our consular presence in Lebanon, my message to British citizens there is clear: leave immediately."
The ministry also clarified that it is boosting support for British nationals in the country by deploying "border forces and consular and military officials in the region."
