Many Abbott brand powdered infant milk products have been withdrawn due to potential contamination by Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria and Salmonella bacteria.

No illnesses related to the consumption of Abbott products have been reported so far in Canada; however, some cases have been reported in the United States.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the products were sold nationwide, all with the same expiration date of April 1, 2022.

Anyone who has these packages should dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.

Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria can, in rare cases, cause severe, even fatal infections. It has been linked to severe intestinal infections and sepsis, especially in newborns.

Salmonella poisoning usually results in short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. But in rare cases, it can also be fatal.

The CFIA says no illnesses related to the consumption of Abbott products have been reported in Canada; however, some illnesses have been reported in the United States.
