With the Ontario election date just weeks away, party leaders are flooding voters with ads.
Some tug at heartstrings, while others hit hard at opponents costing millions of dollars. The Ontario New Democratic Party told CTV News Toronto that the party is spending nearly $12 to $13 million—nearly double what it spent in the 2018 election—on its campaign this year.
A spokesperson for the party said, "This is the largest amount the Ontario New Democratic Party has spent on an election campaign."
Meanwhile, Ontario Liberal leader Steven Del Duca unveiled his first ad on Thursday, which features a highly personal and emotional appeal to voters.
For Ontario New Democratic Party leader Andrea Horwath, she is working to distinguish herself from the Liberals and Progressive Conservatives in a pair of ads released Wednesday. She recounts her modest family life and how she gained experiences through perseverance and the challenge for a better tomorrow, all of which goes back to her family that planted this leadership character in her.
While the three parties have plunged into their campaigns at full force, the provincial election has not yet been officially announced. But with the election set to take place on June 2, they only have weeks left to communicate their platforms to voters.
