Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Egypt's ambassador to Canada, met on Wednesday, April 27, with "Don Costello," adviser to Canadian Prime Minister "Justin Trudeau" for political and defense affairs, where the two parties discussed ways to support Egyptian/Canadian relations and enhance mechanisms for consultation and coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

In a statement by the Egyptian ambassador, he pointed out that the meeting touched on many files concerning the two countries, starting with the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis on the global and Egyptian economy, especially what caused a global food crisis and a rise in the prices of many strategic commodities, and the role that Canada can play in this regard.

The Egyptian ambassador added that the meeting discussed proposals and a joint action plan to support the partnership relationship between the two countries politically and economically during the upcoming phase, revealing that the coincidence of the meeting with the phone call between the foreign ministers of the two countries on the same morning gave a boost and positive momentum to putting many proposals into action.

The ambassador Abu Zeid was keen to inform the Canadian official of the intention of a delegation of members of the Egyptian/Canadian Business Council to visit Canada in the coming weeks to explore ways to enhance trade and investment relations between the two countries, which was welcomed by the Prime Minister’s adviser, pointing to the interest the Canadian government pays to diversifying its trade and economic relations with its partners in the Middle East and Africa.

On the other hand, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid was keen to inform the Canadian official of Egypt’s assessment of the ongoing developments in the Middle East, especially the deteriorating security and political situation in Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories, and the developments of the Libyan crisis, reviewing the efforts that Egypt is undertaking in this regard.
