Rabat: The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the Chairman of the Libyan High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, agreed today, Friday in Rabat, to implement the outcomes of the Bouznika track related to sovereign positions and the unification of the executive authority.
Mr. Aguila confirmed, in a joint press conference following his meeting with Mr. Al-Mishri, that an agreement was reached to "implement the outcomes of the Bouznika track related to sovereign positions in the coming weeks and before the end of next December."
He added, during this press conference attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, that an agreement was also reached "to work towards having a single executive authority in Libya as soon as possible, and to resume dialogue to do what is necessary to hold presidential and parliamentary elections according to a clear roadmap and legislation under which the elections will be conducted in agreement with both councils."
On this occasion, the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives highly praised the role played by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, "who is always keen on the stability of Libya, preserving its soil and territorial unity," expressing his sincere thanks to His Majesty the King, the Moroccan government, and the brotherly Moroccan people for their warm reception and generous hospitality.
For his part, Mr. Al-Mishri confirmed that it was concluded that "the division of institutions has deepened the crisis, and therefore it was necessary to unify these institutions," noting that an agreement was reached to continue understanding regarding the necessary procedures to hold presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
He stressed that unifying the sovereign institutions and the executive authority will pave the way for holding these elections at the earliest opportunity.
In this regard, the Chairman of the High Council referred to the meeting held by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State in Bouznika, which resulted in an agreement to unify the authority or the sovereign institutions, noting that this agreement was implemented concerning two out of seven sovereign positions.
He continued by saying, "We will resume our meetings in a close manner in the upcoming period in the Kingdom of Morocco, and we will follow up urgently on what has been agreed so that what has been achieved can be monitored properly and correctly."
In turn, Mr. Al-Mishri expressed his gratitude to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan government for their efforts made in favor of Libya's stability, noting that these efforts date back to 2014, when Morocco kept itself away from any conflicts and tried to bring parties together and find solutions by hosting the Libyan parties without interference."
