At a time when the American public is awaiting the midterm congressional elections, scheduled to take place on November 8, former US President Donald Trump called on Saturday to mobilize a "giant red wave" of Republicans to ensure victory over the Democrats.
Trump said before a large gathering in the pivotal state of Pennsylvania: "If you want to stop the destruction of our country and save the American dream, you must this Tuesday vote for the Republicans in a giant red wave," referring to the color of his party.
On the other hand, US President Joe Biden considered on Saturday, during a gathering for the Democratic Party, that next week's midterm elections will be a "decisive" moment in the fate of democracy in the United States.
Biden emphasized in Philadelphia, where he is supporting Democratic candidates in the Pennsylvania governor and Senate elections, that "this is a decisive moment for the nation and we must all speak with one voice."
Polling stations will open to elect 435 members of the House of Representatives, and one-third of the 35 Senate seats out of 100 members.
The Republicans only need to win 6 additional seats in the House and one additional seat in the Senate to have a congressional majority, while observers see that these elections have significant impacts on the course of American power and its future decisions.
Decisive States
Americans are looking at five states that will have the decisive word in the elections, coinciding with the decline in Biden's and the Democrats' popularity after the repercussions of the economic Ukraine war.
Georgia: It is witnessing strong competition; the state where Democrat Raphael Warnock won in 2020 is now moving in favor of Republican candidate Herschel Walker (60 years old), who polls indicate is the frontrunner due to his rejection of liberal policies.
However, Warnock is playing the card of abortion access, supported by most women in the state, but high inflation, economic slowdown, and President Joe Biden's unpopularity threaten his advancement.
Pennsylvania: The struggle in Pennsylvania will also be very intense; the last election was decided by a 1 percent margin.
The candidates in the state are Democrat John Fetterman, who suffers from serious health problems, and Republican Mehmet Oz, who enjoys great popularity due to his distinguished media presence.
Nevada: It is likely that Latino voters, meaning immigrants from Latin America, will decide the election for Republican candidate Adam Laxalt against the Democratic candidate Catherine Cortez Masto.
Latino voters in Nevada are in strong disagreement with Catherine, the current seat holder, and have officially announced their lack of support for her, with many preferring conservative policies on immigration and abortion supported by the Republicans.
