Israel and Lebanon are holding a ceremony this morning, Thursday, 27/10/2022, to sign a final agreement for maritime border demarcation in Ras Al-Naqoura, mediated by the United States.

The Israeli government has just officially approved the maritime border agreement with Lebanon.

In the first comment from Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said at the start of the government session to approve the agreement with Lebanon: This is an agreement that strengthens and fortifies Israel's security and enhances our freedom of action against Hezbollah and threats from the north.

Lapid revealed that Israel will receive 17% of the profits from the Qana-Saida Lebanese reservoir - which will bring money to the state's economy.

The Israeli Prime Minister added, according to Channel 7's website, "There is a rare consensus among all security agencies on the importance of the agreement and its contribution to Israel's security and our operational needs. This is a political achievement; not every day does a hostile state recognize Israel through a written agreement before the entire international community."

The maritime border demarcation agreement between Israel and Lebanon stipulates the sharing of the "Karish" gas field, which Tel Aviv began working on since yesterday and has actually extracted gas from it.

Each party will (privately) hand over the signed agreement from its government to the United Nations representative, and no joint commemorative photos will be taken.
